Privacy Policy
Effective Date: October 15, 2026
Nib ("the App," "we," "us," or "our") is developed by CodeWithTrong LLC ("Developer"). This Privacy Policy explains how the App handles information when you use it on macOS, Windows, or Linux.
1. No Account
Nib does not have accounts. You never sign up, sign in, or give us your name or email address to use it.
2. Your Notes Stay on Your Computer
Your notes are plain markdown files in a folder you choose (your "vault"). Images and files you add to notes are saved in that same folder. We never receive a copy of your notes.
Nib also keeps a few things of its own on your computer, outside your vault:
- ▸Your settings
- ▸A search index, so search is fast
- ▸The history of each note (older versions you can restore)
- ▸The scratchpad and which notes you had open
On macOS these live in ~/Library/Application Support/com.codewithtrong.nib. On Windows and Linux they live in your system's usual folder for app data. None of it is sent to us.
3. When Nib Connects to the Internet
Nib works offline. It only goes online for the following:
| What | Who it connects to | What's sent | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Update check | codewithtrong.com (hosted by Vercel) and GitHub | Your IP address and standard request details | To check for new versions and download them when you agree |
| Editor font | Google Fonts | Your IP address and the name of the editor font | To load the font used in the editor |
| Images linked in a note | The website hosting the image | Your IP address and standard request details | To show images you link from the web |
| Git sync, only if you set it up | The git repository you choose | Your notes | To sync your notes to your own repository, using your own login. We never see it. |
If you keep your vault in iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, or a similar service, that service syncs the folder under its own privacy policy. Nib doesn't talk to those services directly.
We do not use analytics, crash reporting, or advertising, and Nib does not track you.
4. Running Code
Nib can run code blocks in your notes when you click Run. The code runs on your computer using languages already installed on it. Nothing about it is sent to us.
5. Feedback
The Send feedback link opens a form on codewithtrong.com. Anything you send through that form is covered by the CodeWithTrong website privacy policy.
6. Permissions the App May Ask For
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Files and folders | On macOS, to read and write your vault when it's in a protected folder such as Desktop, Documents, or a cloud drive |
| Run at login | Only if you turn on Launch at login, so your shortcut works right after you log in |
7. Data Sharing and Sale
We don't have your notes, so there is nothing for us to share or sell. We do not sell any data and we do not share data with advertisers or data brokers.
8. Deleting Your Data
Deleting a note in Nib moves it to Nib's trash, where you can restore it or delete it for good. To remove everything, delete your vault folder and Nib's own app data folder listed in section 2, then uninstall the App.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example when we add new features. We will update the "Effective Date" above when changes are made. Continued use of the App after changes are posted means you accept the updated policy.
